Join another rising exhibition of The Phoenix Art Group as they explore the impact of family, travel and transforming the "ordinary" into extraordinary works of art. The group of six women artists; Donna Durbin, Deborah Horwitz, Rosella Fida, Marite Preti, Carol Scott and Sally Worthington express their personal vision in a variety of media including sculpture in bronze, papier mache and "found" materials, photography, collage, fiber, mixed media and paint.
Founded in 2002, the Phoenix Art Group is an international group of six women who represent North American as well as European and South American Cultures. More work and artist contact information can be found at www.thephoenixartgroup.com.

Technology, once the sole domain of a few, is now a part of everyday life. Fashion, is one of the final frontiers, and the scene is exploding.
FashionWare SXSW is an exhibition of visionary work by cutting-edge fashion designers who today are shaping the future of fashion. From "smart" fabrics to electronic-embedded outfits, these fashion pioneers are turning to technology to fashion a signature style. The results are extraordinary: a climate-aware dress that changes color outdoors; a flirty blue evening gown that reacts to the body's movement; a pair of cycling shoes that illuminates at night.
The visionary ideas brought to life at FashionWare SXSW bring forth the emotional and soft side of technology without forgoing function.
Hi-tech clothing is no longer simply about performance: Technology is used to craft novel forms of self-expression and forge new experiences that connect people and ideas.
Fashion today is a balancing act between high and low tech. In the past five years, the emerging field of wearable technology has matured from computers strapped awkwardly onto the body to fashionable garments that seamlessly integrate technology with craft to create a new modern aesthetic.

Join the Croft Art Gallery in welcoming its exhibiting artist @ the opening reception for Rocio Ramirez Landoll’s exhibition, “The Silence Hurts (El Dolor del Silencio)”
Rocio’s fabric work addresses issues of violence around the world. From her Artist Statement: “I use pieces of silk to represent the bodies of those who have been abused. Each stitch is a protest against abuse.”

The Texas Fashion Collection is operated as a non-profit enterprise by the University of North Texas through the College of Visual Arts and Design (CoVAD) and housed on the UNT campus in Denton. Since 1972, UNT and CoVAD have preserved and expanded the collection, which now includes more than 15,000 historic fashions and accessories. Fashion on Main is the first stage of the planned UNT Design Research Center at the Universities Center at Dallas, which will provide greatly expanded educational and cultural resources for the people of North Texas and the burgeoning design and business communities of Dallas and Fort Worth.
Hours: Noon to 5PM, Thursdays and Fridays.

The Festival Gallery of Quilt Art: Good For You
An international juried and judged exhibition of Art Quilts
Prizes are awarded based on the interpretation of theme, excellence in design, and craftsmanship.
The International Quilt Festival has issued a call for entries in an international juried and judged exhibition of art quilts – Good for You.
If you’re interested, the closing date for online submissions is 4 April 2011.

What’s good for you? Various studies tell us that exercise, and eating healthy, etc. are good for you. Stress, meat, chocolate, coffee, red wine, and video games, are not. Explore what’s good for you in this contest and exhibition from International Quilt Festival. You submit a quilt and have a friend pat you on the back and tell you “Good for you!” Entries are art quilts that speak to the theme. Any techniques—piecing, appliqué, embroidery, photo transfer, whole cloth and/or manipulated fabric, etc.—may be used as long as they are appropriate for the quilt (consisting of three layers) and the theme.
Quilts must be made specifically for the contest and must not have been published in books, calendars, magazines, newsletters, web sites, blogs, or any other form of publication prior to November 2011.
